Trump Announces Nomination of Attorney John Coale as Belarus Envoy
"I am pleased to announce that John Coale, Esq., known as one of our Country's truly GREAT lawyers ... is being nominated as the United States Special Envoy to Belarus," Trump declared on Truth Social, his social media platform.
The president highlighted Coale's track record, stating he "has already successfully negotiated the release of 100 hostages, and is going for an additional 50."
Trump extended preemptive gratitude to Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko "for his consideration on the release of these additional people."
Coale has emerged as a central figure in US-Belarus diplomatic negotiations throughout Trump's second administration, notably directing talks that secured the liberation of 52 detainees in September.
In August, Trump and Lukashenko engaged in direct telephone discussions addressing bilateral relations and regional developments.
After that exchange, Trump said he had "a wonderful talk with the highly respected president of Belarus" and thanked him for releasing prisoners while discussing "the release of 1,300 additional prisoners."
Meanwhile, Lukashenko extended an invitation to Trump and his family to visit Minsk—an offer the president accepted, according to Belarus state-operated news agency BeltA.
