Sudanese FM condemns international community inaction on RSF’s abuse

(MENAFN) Sudanese Foreign Minister Mohieldin Salem criticized the international community on Monday for remaining silent regarding ongoing “violations” carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in El-Fasher, North Darfur, and Bara, North Kordofan.

The comments were made during a meeting in Port Sudan with Amy Pope, head of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), who is visiting Sudan for five days, according to official reports.

Salem denounced “the international community’s silence over the ongoing violations committed by the RSF in El-Fasher and Bara," emphasizing the urgency of global action. He also stressed “the need for concerted international efforts to designate the RSF as a terrorist organization.”

The minister reaffirmed Sudan’s commitment to supporting humanitarian operations and safeguarding aid workers, noting ongoing collaboration with the IOM, particularly in initiatives that assist the voluntary return of Sudanese migrants.

Sudan is facing a deepening humanitarian crisis as fighting between the army and the RSF, ongoing since April 2023, has claimed tens of thousands of lives and displaced millions.

Pope expressed “solidarity with Sudan following the recent RSF takeover of El-Fasher and the grave, widespread violations committed against residents and civilians, which forced large numbers to flee to the areas of al-Dabba in the Northern State and Tawila in North Darfur,” according to reports. She also reiterated the IOM’s commitment to addressing the humanitarian needs of newly displaced populations in al-Dabba and Tawila.

During her visit, Pope is scheduled to meet with various officials and conduct field visits to al-Dabba and Khartoum to evaluate the conditions of those displaced from El-Fasher and to review government efforts in reconstruction, development, and facilitating voluntary returns, as stated by reports.
