Istanbul Conference Discusses Issues in Middle East

(MENAFN) An international gathering focused on worldwide rivalry in the Middle East began on Monday at Bogazici University in Istanbul, aiming to delve into the transformation of commerce routes and recent global shifts.

The two-day event, named “Great Power Competition & the Middle East: Redrawing Trade Routes and Networks,” has been arranged through cooperation between the university and several prominent institutions.

These include the PLUS Institute (the Austrian Institute for International Research and Development), the Al Jazeera Centre for Studies, the Foundation for Political, Economic and Social Research (SETA) headquartered in Ankara, the capital of Türkiye, and the Center for Turkish Studies at Shanghai University.

Participants at the conference include scholars, analysts, and investigators from countries such as Türkiye, Austria, Germany, China, Russia, Iran, Qatar, the United Kingdom, and France.

The initial day features dialogues on the rivalry among leading global powers and their colonial heritages in the Middle East.

Sessions will also address shifting trade corridors and the influence of India, Russia, and China in global commerce.

Further discussions are anticipated on Europe’s stance and ongoing deliberations about its “strategic autonomy.”

On the following day, the agenda will turn to the evolving alliances in the Middle East, regional initiatives, and overarching international strategies.

Additional topics will include changing conflicts, power structures both worldwide and within the region, and the emergence of a “new global order.”
