California doctor pleads guilty of supplying ketamine

(MENAFN) A California doctor, Dr. Salvador Plasencia, has agreed to plead guilty to four counts of distributing ketamine related to supplying the late actor Matthew Perry. Federal prosecutors revealed the plea deal on Monday. The charges carry a maximum prison sentence of 40 years, and the plea is expected in the coming weeks.

Perry, famous for his role as Chandler Bing on Friends, died in October 2023 at age 54. Though he had openly battled depression and addiction, the circumstances surrounding his death shocked many fans.

Documents in the case reveal that Dr. Plasencia injected Perry with ketamine at his home and in public places, such as the Long Beach Aquarium parking lot. He also trained Perry’s assistant—who is also charged—to administer the drug and provided extra vials for home use. Prosecutors allege Dr. Plasencia was part of an underground network of dealers and medical professionals supplying Perry beyond his legal prescriptions.

Between September 30 and October 12, 2023, Dr. Plasencia sold Perry and his assistant multiple vials and syringes, exceeding prescribed amounts.

Dr. Plasencia’s legal team has not yet commented.
