Governor declares one killed by Ukrainian missile assault on Russian cultural center
Preliminary information indicates a 64-year-old man was killed in the attack. The governor extended his condolences to the victim’s family and pledged support. Among the injured are three men, including the center’s chief engineer, who suffered shrapnel wounds, bruises, and fractures, and two women who sustained concussions. All have been hospitalized.
The strike caused extensive damage to the building and sparked a large fire covering around 400 square meters, with firefighters seen working to control the blaze in footage shared by Khinshtein. Unverified reports on Telegram suggest the attack was carried out using a US-supplied HIMARS multiple rocket launcher.
In late April, Russia announced the full recapture of Kursk Region’s border areas previously occupied by Ukrainian forces since last August. Despite this, Ukraine has continued missile strikes, drone attacks, and sabotage targeting civilians in the region. Just the day before, about 30,000 residents lost power after a Ukrainian strike hit a substation.
Earlier in June, two separate railway bridge collapses occurred in Kursk and neighboring Bryansk Regions, causing injuries and deaths. Russian authorities labeled both events as terrorist acts, blaming Ukraine for the incidents.
