US Drug Enforcement Agency Arrests Hundreds

(MENAFN) The US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) announced that its officers detained hundreds of members connected to the Sinaloa Cartel and confiscated substantial amounts of narcotics and weapons during a week-long campaign targeting the influential Mexican cartel.

According to the agency, federal authorities took into custody 617 suspects associated with the Sinaloa Cartel.

They also intercepted 480 kilograms of fentanyl powder and 420 firearms, along with other items, in a sweeping national operation conducted between Aug. 25 and 29.

The DEA released this information in a statement on Monday.

“These results demonstrate the full weight of DEA’s commitment to protecting the American people."

“Every kilogram of poison seized, every dollar stripped from the cartels, and every arrest we make represents lives saved and communities defended. DEA will not relent until the Sinaloa Cartel is dismantled from top to bottom," emphasized DEA Administrator Terrance Cole.

Although fatalities from narcotics escalated during the COVID-19 outbreak, statistics from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicate that overdose deaths have decreased to levels closer to those recorded before the pandemic. Still, overdoses remain the leading cause of mortality for individuals aged 18 to 44.
