Israel Broadens Ground Offensive in Southern Lebanon
Rafi Milo, head of Israel’s Northern Command, said the army had taken an “additional step” to enlarge what he described as a forward security zone.
Since the offensive began on March 2, Israeli forces have repeatedly announced ground operations in southern Lebanon, while Hezbollah reports engaging the advancing troops.
Incursions have been recorded in several border towns, including Khiam, Adaisseh, and Kfar Kila in the Marjayoun district, as well as Kfarchouba in Hasbaya and Dhayra in Tyre district. Hezbollah has stated in multiple updates that it continues to repel the incursions.
In response, Hezbollah has launched rockets and drones targeting Israeli forces and military vehicles in southern Lebanon and northern Israel.
Israeli military censorship enforces strict controls over reporting on clashes with Hezbollah and troop movements, restricting the publication of footage without approval and limiting casualty information.
Milo claimed that the army had killed more than 750 Hezbollah members and destroyed infrastructure across Lebanon.
Earlier Thursday, the army confirmed that the 162nd Division had joined the 91st and 36th Divisions to extend the ground offensive, reporting two Israeli soldiers killed and five wounded in clashes.
Reports indicate that the army is planning to expand its presence up to 8 kilometers (5 miles) into Lebanese territory, establishing 18 military positions there.
Since the March 2 cross-border attack by Hezbollah, Israel has conducted airstrikes and a ground offensive in southern Lebanon. Lebanese authorities reported at least 1,116 fatalities and 3,229 injuries from Israeli attacks.
The escalation coincides with the ongoing US-Israeli offensive on Iran, which has claimed more than 1,340 lives since February 28. Iran has retaliated with missile and drone strikes targeting Israel and US bases in Gulf countries.
