Security Posts Targeted in Fresh Clashes Reported in Syria’s Suwayda Province

(MENAFN) Armed groups described as “rebel groups” carried out attacks on internal security positions in southern Syria’s Suwayda province on Sunday, according to reports citing Syrian media.

As stated by reports, the state-run channel Al-Ikhbariya, referencing an unnamed security source, said the assaults targeted security posts in the areas of Rimat Hazem and Walgha. The outlet also reported a subsequent wave of attacks in the same locations, although no immediate information was provided regarding casualties or material damage.

The developments come in a region that has been under a ceasefire arrangement since July, following earlier deadly clashes between Druze factions and Bedouin tribes that resulted in significant casualties and injuries.

According to general accounts, the truce has faced repeated violations, with some incidents attributed to groups linked to Hikmat al-Hijri, including reported attacks on military positions.

Reports also indicate that government forces have stated their commitment to maintaining the ceasefire agreement while facilitating humanitarian measures, including civilian evacuations and the delivery of aid to affected areas.
