Small Boats Attack Cargo Ship Near Iran's Strait of Hormuz Gateway

(MENAFN) A cargo vessel has come under attack from small boats in strategically sensitive waters west of the Iranian coastal city of Sirik, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency reported Sunday.

The agency placed the incident approximately 11 nautical miles west of Sirik — a city that sits at the threshold of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most critical maritime chokepoints.

UKMTO confirmed that all crew members were accounted for and reported safe, with no environmental damage recorded in the wake of the assault.

Authorities disclosed no details regarding the vessel's cargo or the identity of the attackers. The motive behind the strike remains unknown.

Shipping operators in the region have been placed on notice.

"Vessels are advised to transit with caution and report any suspicious activity," UKMTO said.
