Iran Reviews U.S. Reply to 14-Point Peace Plan

(MENAFN) Iran confirmed Sunday it has received and is actively reviewing a formal American response to its 14-point framework aimed at halting an ongoing conflict, with Tehran signaling that nuclear matters remain entirely off the table.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei disclosed that the U.S. reply was delivered through Pakistani intermediaries, as reported by a state broadcaster.

"The Americans have provided a response to the Pakistani side regarding Iran's plan, and we are reviewing it," Baghaei said.

The spokesman was explicit that the Iranian framework is narrowly focused on ending the war, drawing a sharp line between peace negotiations and any discussion of Tehran's nuclear program.

"No nuclear issue has been mentioned in Iran's plan to end the war," he said. "At this stage, we are not conducting nuclear negotiations."

A day earlier, a semi-official news agency revealed that Tehran had formally submitted its 14-point counterproposal — drafted in response to a nine-point American framework — through the same Pakistani channel. A central point of contention has emerged over timelines: Washington had pushed for a two-month ceasefire, while Tehran insists all outstanding issues must be resolved within 30 days, prioritizing a permanent end to hostilities over a temporary pause.

According to the news agency, Iran's proposal encompasses sweeping demands — among them, legally binding guarantees against future military strikes, a full withdrawal of U.S. forces from areas bordering Iran, the lifting of naval blockades and economic sanctions, the release of frozen Iranian assets, war reparations, and a comprehensive halt to fighting across multiple fronts, including Lebanon.

The proposal also addresses the Strait of Hormuz — the critical maritime corridor through which a significant share of the world's oil and gas supplies pass — which has remained closed since hostilities erupted on Feb. 28.

Pakistan, which brokered a ceasefire between Iran and the U.S. in early April and facilitated landmark peace talks in Islamabad, has reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining its mediating role until a permanent resolution is reached.
