Israeli Strikes in S. Lebanon Kill at Least Eight Despite Ceasefire
(MENAFN) At least eight people are killed on Sunday after a new series of Israeli attacks targets areas in southern Lebanon, even as a ceasefire remains in place, according to reports.
One airstrike near the city of Tyre results in the deaths of three individuals, including two Syrians and one Egyptian. In the same vicinity, a separate drone strike hits a motorcycle, killing another person.
In the town of Breqa, an Israeli strike on a residential building claims the lives of two members of the local municipal council, as stated by reports. Meanwhile, another attack in Qalawiya, located in the Bint Jbeil district, leaves two people dead.
Elsewhere, a strike in Safad al-Battikh injures three individuals, adding to the casualties from the day’s violence.
Since early March, Israeli forces have intensified operations across Lebanon following retaliation by Hezbollah linked to the Iran war, resulting in nearly 2,700 deaths and forcing more than 1.6 million people to flee their homes, according to official figures.
A ceasefire brokered with US involvement came into effect on April 17 for an initial period of 10 days and was later prolonged through mid-May, as stated by reports.
