Vance Says US Never Considered Sending Iran’s Enriched Uranium to Russia

(MENAFN) JD Vance said Tuesday that the United States is not considering any arrangement that would involve sending Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium to Russia, rejecting recent media reports suggesting such an idea was under discussion.

Speaking to reporters at the White House, Vance said: "That is not currently our plan, that has never been our plan. I've seen some reporting on that. I don't know where it comes from, but the president is going to continue to negotiate a deal, so that is not currently the plan of the United States government."

He added that the issue had not been formally raised in negotiations and suggested it was unlikely to be acceptable to either side, saying:
"The Iranians have not raised it. My sense is that's not something the Iranians would be particularly excited about, and I know the president isn't particularly excited about it either. But who knows, I'm not going to make pre commitments in a negotiation on any particular topic."

According to reports, speculation about the idea stemmed from media claims that Iran had floated an updated proposal involving the transfer of enriched uranium to Russia under certain conditions, as part of broader efforts to reach an agreement to end the conflict involving Tehran.

However, US officials emphasized that no such proposal is currently being pursued by Washington.

The comments come amid ongoing diplomatic discussions over Iran’s nuclear program and wider efforts to manage tensions linked to the conflict, according to reports.
